OUR PROJECT: REWILDING
Reforestation and habitat restoration
With more than 18,000 trees in 36 groves and 14 selected native Mediterranean species, such as holm oaks, mastic trees and pines. This project restores biodiversity and promotes the connection between ecosystems by providing shelter and food for birds, mammals and insects, establishing ecological corridors for wildlife.
Lagoon: Environmental and Landscape Restoration
The Opus foundation has transformed a former irrigation pond into a natural pond. This project modifies a plastic surface along the edge, turning it into a natural shoreline with geocells of seeded soil and floating rafts of vegetation. Today, the lagoon is a reservoir of aquatic wildlife that functions as a healthy ecosystem, fostering biodiversity.
From game reserve to wildlife refuge
A game reserve has been transformed into a wildlife refuge. The first measure, which consists of stopping hunting on the site, has reduced pressure on game species (such as rabbits, partridges, hares, etc.) by increasing the base of the food chain, allowing carnivores to feed naturally on our land.
Fire shield
The initiative has implemented the property's Forest Fire Prevention Plan, which includes 4 km of firebreaks and 2 hectares of pine thinning to reduce biomass. The plan covers the entire area of the foundation, 166 hectares, and the completed works will be monitored periodically.
An olive grove full of life
Fourteen hectares of abandoned and non-irrigated olive groves have been rehabilitated using sustainable and ecological techniques, including non-ploughing methods. By improving the grass cover on the ground, planting hedges and avoiding the use of pesticides, biodiversity has found a habitat in our olive groves.
